Requests from the police and other authorities

1. Our approach
1.1 Members trust us with personal and sensitive information, so we only disclose it when the law requires us to, or when someone's safety is at immediate risk. A person on our team reviews every request.
1.2 Club Giraffe Ltd is a company registered in England and Wales. We respond to valid requests from the police, courts, regulators and other law enforcement agencies in the UK and, where appropriate, in other countries, including the United States.
2. Where to send a request
2.1 Email legal@clubgiraffe.com with the subject line "Law enforcement request". Please write from an official agency email address.
2.2 Include your name and role, your agency, a way for us to verify you, the legal basis for the request, a clear description of the information you need and the date range, your case reference, any deadline, and whether you are asking us not to tell the member.
2.3 Please do not send requests through WhatsApp or social media, as we cannot verify them. Formal legal documents can be served by post at our registered office: Club Giraffe Ltd, 71-75 Shelton Street, Covent Garden, London, United Kingdom, WC2H 9JQ.
3. What we need before we disclose
3.1 We verify who is asking, and we ask for valid legal process. In the UK, for example, that may be a court order, a production order, or a request that explains why the information is needed to prevent or detect crime. In the United States, it may be a subpoena, court order or search warrant, as the law requires. We may ask for more detail before we respond.
3.2 We disclose only what is necessary and specific. We do not give out information in bulk, and we may challenge a request that is too broad, unlawful or unsupported.
4. What information we hold
4.1 We hold what members give us and what the service creates, as described in our Privacy Policy: contact details, application and conversation information, introductions and membership records. Payments are handled by our payment provider, Stripe.
4.2 We keep information for the periods set out in the Privacy Policy. We cannot provide information that has been deleted. If you need us to keep a member's records while you obtain legal process, tell us, and we will consider preserving them for a limited period.
5. Emergencies
5.1 If someone is at imminent risk of serious harm or death, contact the emergency services first (999 in the UK, 911 in the US). You can also email us marked "Emergency" and we will review it as quickly as we can. In a genuine emergency we may share limited information without formal process where the law allows. This inbox is not an emergency line.
6. Telling members
6.1 We tell a member when we receive a request about them, unless the law or a court order prevents us, or telling them would put someone at risk or prejudice an investigation. If you need us to delay or withhold notice, say so in your request and give the reason.
7. Requests that are not from the police or authorities
7.1 This page is for the police, courts and regulators. We do not disclose member information to private individuals, or to their representatives in a civil dispute, without a court order.
8. Records and changes
8.1 We keep a record of every request we receive and how we responded. We may update this page from time to time, and the current version is always here.
